‘Milk N Kookies’ pay off
A Web site where adults role play as virtual children may be a foreign concept to some. But for a local church, there was nothing virtual about $3,000 worth of food and toys being delivered Dec. 23 to help needy families for the holidays.
Ocean City’s XXXX & XXXXX are Koffeekid Smalls and Yuki Eliot on “The Milk N Kookies Show,” a live weekly broadcast that airs in a virtual world called Second Life, where more than 1,000 people listen weekly.
Last year, they used the radio show to raise about $1,200 to purchase more than 400 pounds of food, clothes and toys for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Southern Branch.
This year, they raised more than $3,000 and are adopting 50 children and 20 adults at Northfield’s Church of God of Prophecy, which is also a food bank that feeds more than 800 families a month.
“The money came from people all over the world … Germany, France, Spain. …” said [Koffee], who was motivated by his own childhood memories of not having much around the holidays. “I knew there would be no Christmas presents, no big meal, and I certainly wasn’t getting the Game Boy I wanted. We could barely afford to eat at all, and deep down my parents were far more hurt by the lack of toys than we were. So it’s an incredible experience to do this. We went around and bought all these gifts and wrapped them. We’re pretty exhausted. It was more than we ever expected.”

But before that, I’m just going to toss out there that I think the volume dial on my laptop is possessed. =-p And being the ADD woman that I am, mini-story: last night/this morning was Insomnia Party at South Point Academy in Undercity. I finally logged after 2AM SLT, but at one point, Katsumi/Yaoi, Enz, Kyuui, and myself were in the basement of the Academy talking about demon possession of all things, though we hit other random topics.

Anyway, back to the subject line. RP in UC’s really slowed down for me, personally, as of late. Sunday evening, the story moved into “chapter 1,” and I was selected to be part of that, but I can only do so much RP-wise when no one else is there. =-\ To make things even funner, one of the people I RP with the most is thinking of RPing his character out, due to OOC stuff that I won’t get into here because I doubt he or anyone else involved would want me to. Grrr… I get that summer’s always slower for sims—I’ve been told that plenty, and when I was an RL kid, my family traveled plenty during the summer, and I’ve no doubt UC folks travel, too, but still… Doesn’t make it any easier for folks like me who don’t really have any first lives at the moment. I had a good “groove” going in RP, times where I was really getting “in character,” like totally forgetting that the woman behind the keyboard exists and I AM that character, and I’m worried I’m losing that. The little RP I have gotten to do has been feeling more and more strained, at least for me personally. (If that’s not coming across to anyone I’ve RP’d with…go me? I dunno…) And now someone who was vital at the beginning of UC, but then left, is back again, and I have no idea how that’s going to affect anything, if at all. *Sigh* If this were an RL RP, like DnD or something, schedules are easier to coordinate—at the very least, we’re all in the same bleeding time zone. You can actually say, “OK, we’ll all meet at Joe’s or Starschmucks or whatever at 7PM this Wednesday,” and reasonably expect people to show and be ready to RP. Not so in SL. Rai’s in Europe, and everyone else is scattered throughout the US, most people have “RL” that has to be satiated before SL can be indulged in, etc.

Still looking for a job, but that’s going no where fast. (Thank you, Mr. President, for all your anti-business rhetoric; that’ll drive the economy forward, really. (And before anyone whines, I had my criticisms of President Bush, but I try to avoid waxing politics on here; religion, I’m confident in speaking on, politics not so much.))

I’m due to guest host MnK this weekend, and as I told Koffee, I am somewhat nervous, but I likened it to the nerves I had like in 5th grade before my first band concert. Koffee showed me the MnK studio in K-Grid, and that was pretty neat, though I look funky in K-Grid. I’m not sure how, but I had the K-Grid viewer and SL running at once and my laptop DIDN’T blow up. I’m pretty sure it only held up bandwidth-wise because Dad wasn’t home yet; when he’s home, he streams video like there’s no tomorrow, because silly me introduced him to podcasting, so now he just downloads all his boring politics podcasts, and what he can’t podcast, he streams, which isn’t great for me, either. My ex was in a state 7 hours away from me, and we used to use Skype a lot, and if Dad was video streaming, good luck with us getting Skype to work. Video gets disconnected, voice gets disconnected 5 min. later, text is the only thing reliable at that point. However, this Friday it looks like Dad’ll be working late, (long story; he usually doesn’t on Fridays,) so I should have zero problems with MnK guest-hostage. Host-age….blah English. I remember one time I was talking to someone, my ex, I think, and I meant busy-ness, but I spelled it business, because that’s how English is “supposed” to “work,” and he was rather confused on what I was talking about. Anyway, there I go rambling on again…Friday evening’s going to be, ahem, interesting, so everyone better be in-world at noon SLT on Saturday to hear it. =-p

Almost 2AM SLT, so I should REALLY be getting to sleep. Nini! o.o/

So in UC, Murdoch, the 2nd-in-command “superior” to my character, managed to get himself into another fight tonight (Monday). Being the “I-want-to-protect-everyone” girl that she is, she gets involved. She can now add “poison-knife scar” to her list of battle scars, but the fight wasn’t as eventful as the last. As I presume is wide public knowledge by now, (for starters, it was talked about on The Milk ‘N’ Kookies Show,) Plinker Blinker {sp?} was permabaned from SL. I knew yesterday that her stores in Undercity had been banlined, but since they’d been just that, I thought it’d all work out. I didn’t realize at that point that she’d been banned for good. Rai, the Underground (aka Undercity,) sim’s owner and bill-payer, was naturally not thrilled that Linden Labs just put up ban lines and didn’t even tell him. Plinker’s now on K-Grid and supposedly is planning on moving her operations over there.

Hoping to make my normal visit to MnK, and to Aspen’s “Prom” thereafter. (I was miserable the entire night of my RL Prom, but if this stinks, I can log off. =-p ) I wouldn’t mind just horsing around as Janet all day, as I did today, (I’m sick; what else am I going to do?) but I have to go on as my main av. for a hosting gig. (Christian club, before anyone gets the wrong idea. *Glares*) Need to do that because that job is how I fund this av, too. How else is a “12-year-old” going to make some Lindens? =-p

Anyway….sleep needed….Oh cold medicine…. =-p

I got very little done IRL yesterday, but had probably one of my best days in SL yet as Janet.

The day started with me being late TPing into The Milk ‘N’ Kookies Show because of my laptop being sticky, (not literally; I’m careful with sticky things around this thing!) and naturally the crowed made my laptop chug along even more. I downloaded the episode a) because I liked it and b) because I missed the beginning. I feel a little better knowing Koffe is as bad of a parker as I am. XD (Had quite an adventure backing my parents’ minivan out of the church parking lot today…Oi….pedestrians didn’t hesitate at all to walk behind me. I at least try and ascertain if the driver can even SEE me!) And I’m glad I religiously (no joke intended =-p ) set my parking break… ANYWAY. =-p

Later on that day, I get an e-mail about a surprise party for Adz’s 3rd Rezday. Adz was one of the first folks who talked to me in SL as a kid, and surprise parties rock anyway, so I TPed in. We filled the sim, which gives me a strange, twisted sense of accomplishment, (though not as much of one as I get when a group crashes a sim. =-p ) Koffekid was the DJ, and we even played tag for part of the time. Honestly, the party was better than any RL birthday parties I’ve been to, my own included.

As an RL kid, I was that kid who no one wanted to invite unless their parents forced them to, but no one seemed to mind my presence this time. It honestly felt more like why I wanted to become a child avatar to begin with, to have FUN! My main av generally hangs out on Christian sims, but many of them are always serious, serious, serious, and all too often can’t “forgive” the fact that I’m Catholic, (and devoutly so IRL.) Janet’s profile clearly states that, but no one in SL kid-dom seems to give a flying fart. I intend that faith to be a major driving factor in my Undercity RP character and the character sheet was approved anyway.

The Willowdale Sunday School idea’s going to become a short-term VBS in June, just to do a “dry-run.” If it goes well, Erica and I want to expand it to Sunday School on a regular basis. ALL of the aforementioned is UNOFFICIAL, though, so take it for what it’s worth. If I can ever become part of an SL “family,” I think Willowdale is precisely the kind of town I want to live in. ^_^

I’ve thought about using one of the many “adoption agencies” in SL to get hooked up with a family, but I have no way of knowing which are reputable and which are not. I don’t want to accidently wind up listed on an ageplay agency or anything like that. I also suspect some agencies, or even just adult avs, might not appreciate some of the “requirements” I have, like that I want my SL “parents” to be SL partners, male and female, and be the same sex as their avatars IRL. Anyway, more on that would be another blog post for another day.

Anyway…some JavaScript homework is calling my name, so I guess I should scamper. God bless! ^_^

If this is not the appropriate place to ask these questions, I beg forgiveness of anyone I offend. I mean neither to pry into other’s lives, first or second, nor to go where I am not wanted. Doing so socially was a frequent error during my first life childhood.

After listening to the most recent posted episode of The Milk ‘N’ Kookies Show, (their first episode from the KIC,) with the parting interview from Arctic Noel…I am TOTALLY lost…

I got the first letter they read at the beginning of the month, figured, “OK, whatever,” and didn’t think much of it. Then in this most recent episode, they played Arctic reading a letter he wrote to a friend. (Not sure if it’s the same Paulo {sp?} who DJs at the Vortex or not, but that’s the only kid avatar by that name that I know of. If it is one and the same person, does anything that has recently transpired have to do with why I’ve seen so little of him at the Vortex as of late?) Arctic stated that if his first life parents heard the interview, they might not be happy with it, but I can’t fathom why. Arctic was generic enough I’d think his parents couldn’t object that much. Well, he was generic enough to leave me more baffled and confused than I was before the interview. What was Arctic looking for in Second Life, where does Paulo fit in, and…oi… Koffeekid said before running that interview that we’d understand afterwards why he chose not to edit it, but I don’t understand what the heck happened, though the only part I would have edited anyway was one particularly long stretch of silence.

Okay, do I have a few hunches? Yeah. Would I post them here? No; that would be rude. Do I feel comfortable just contacting Arctic on YIM and asking him myself? No; I’d never heard of the man until MnK read his departure letter, and I’ve never met him personally, despite the curiosity I now have. (I was tempted to combine this post with a post about me, socializing, friends in SL, and such, but I’ll make that a separate post.)

So…..yeah…I’m lost…and in some ways I felt that the other kid avs all got it…I hated feeling left out as a first life kid and I can’t say I’m much fonder of it as a first life adult or Second Life kid. =-\

If it would still be respectful towards Arctic (and Paulo and whoever else is involved) for someone to enlighten me, (or crud, better still, if Arctic himself somehow found this, though I doubt that,) but not respectful to just post it as a comment on a blog post, I set up an e-mail account for this avatar (keeps my e-mail organized,) at janet DOT rothmanay AT DON’T_EVEN_THINK_OF_SPAMMING_ME_YOU_WRETCHED_BOTS g m ail DOT c o m I think any real human being (or its avatar) can figure out how to translate that to a real address. ^_~

And yes, I did debate making this post, but I felt even more awkward and rude at the thought of messaging, in-game, someone like Koffekid who would know, but whom I barely know about it. =-\ Again, take all my apologies for any offense I cause and then double it.

I went to a recording of The Milk ‘N’ Kookie Show today and it was a study in having fun despite technical difficulties. I felt bad for them, because it seemed Murphy appeared within the first five minutes and never, ever left. Still, though, I enjoyed myself, though I did feel sorry for the MNK staff. I’m enough of a geek to know the frustration of encountering a technical problem that it seems like you cannot overcome. As near as I can figure, it sounds like a Skype call is generated, Winne {sp?} records that, and sends it out to a feed that the parcel then streams; meanwhile Winne records the feed for the website. Anyway, I had a good afternoon of it and stayed for a DJ set thereafter.

Unfortunately, JavaScript homework calls. =-(
